Little River Faithfest 2003 Review

July 25, 26, 2003 Minnedosa Manitoba

On July 25th-27th, the first annual Little River Faith Fest was held on a sweltering weekend. This event, not to be confused with Little River Rock Fest, was held at the same location, with the same vendors, by the same people. The staff was told that, if they volunteered for this event, they then would get tickets to the next week Little Rock event. It was an event that suddenly popped out of nowhere, being heavily advertised on dual faith radio stations, with big bands like Audio Adrenaline, Jars of Clay, Pillar, Benjamin Gate… ooops wrong about that (they cancelled), and Tree 63.. ooops they cancelled too.

Relient K – KJ-52 Review

February 2, 2003 Providence College, Otterburne Manitoba

The annual youth encounter at Providence college was held from January 31-February 2. They had musical guests Relient K and KJ-52 perform Saturday night. The concert lasted from 8:00- 10:00 with KJ-52 kicking things off. In between sets the Rubber Chicken Guy got out of a strait jacket.

KJ-52

KJ-52 (pronounced five two not fifty-two) took a break from his current tour to come and perform. His fast moving lyrics and awesome beats sound like Eminem, but his lyrics say otherwise. His lyrics have important godly messages in them. KJ-52 is from Flordia. Good thing he wasn’t here two weeks before, when temperatures were quite a bit lower ! Brrr. He is a former youth pastor. He left that job to sing and spread the Word of God. The 52 in KJ-52 stand for the 5 loaves of bread and the two fish that fed thousands in the Bible. His set was 45 minutes long.

Jake – Starfield Brighter Tour Review

Monday, Oct 3, 2002

Starting on Thursday October 3rd, the Brighter tour, staring Jake and Starfield, hit Manitoba. The first spot they came to was Brandon, Manitoba and the Solid Ground Coffee House. It had been an old two storey sized church, decked out with hard wood floors and stained glass windows, but now had been turned into a coffee house where local bands could play. Early on the young teenaged fans lined up, along with parents. It turned out to be a well sized crowd of about 100, with enough room for everyone.

Newsboys Winnipeg Concert Review

Monday, June 10th, 2002

It was a dark and stormy night….

Well, the night ended up not so bad, but the morning of the concert had hurricane type conditions, which ended the original plans of holding the outdoor festival style tour at Assiniboia Downs. The outdoor stage which was assembled the night before, sat unused in a heavy downpour.

The new venue about 50 km away was in Selkirk Manitoba, north of Winnipeg, in the Selkirk Recreational Complex. Selkirk’s new arena was a good choice as an indoor location that easily held the 3000+ crowd assembled to witness one of Christian Music’s biggest names – The Newsboys.

Michael W. Smith April 5th Concert Review

Calvary Temple, Winnipeg

April 5 th 2002

This night was billed as an evening of worship with Michael W. Smith,
and it lived up to its billing. It was Smitty at his finest, in worship, while
revealing a personal side.

Local boy Jon Buller warmed up the crowd with ‘Meet me in the River’ as
well as other ‘Hear the Music’ night favourites. The loud applause and
almost hysterical crowd reaction to Smitty’s entrance, was a sure sign
that ‘Star Power’ was in the ‘Peg.

Delirious March 4th Concert Review

Duckworth Centre Winnipeg

March 4 th 2002

River City Ventures and CHVN teamed up to bring Delirious to the Manitoba area. This concert signals the beginning of big names returning to the Peg. Over 2500 people packed into the Duckworth centre at the U of Winnipeg, and marked the serious return of big name concert culture Winnipeg.

In the metal 80’s there was a period of several years, when big Christian hard rock and pop bands frequented Manitoba’s prime venues, including the Concert Hall, Pantages Playhouse Theatre, and Winnipeg Arenea, on a regular basis. Artists such as Rez, Daniel Band, Petra, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, White Cross, and other major CCM artists, were in Winnipeg on a monthly basis.
