February 2, 2003 Providence College, Otterburne Manitoba
The annual youth encounter at Providence college was held from January 31-February 2. They had musical guests Relient K and KJ-52 perform Saturday night. The concert lasted from 8:00- 10:00 with KJ-52 kicking things off. In between sets the Rubber Chicken Guy got out of a strait jacket.

KJ-52
KJ-52 (pronounced five two not fifty-two) took a break from his current tour to come and perform. His fast moving lyrics and awesome beats sound like Eminem, but his lyrics say otherwise. His lyrics have important godly messages in them. KJ-52 is from Flordia. Good thing he wasn’t here two weeks before, when temperatures were quite a bit lower ! Brrr. He is a former youth pastor. He left that job to sing and spread the Word of God. The 52 in KJ-52 stand for the 5 loaves of bread and the two fish that fed thousands in the Bible. His set was 45 minutes long.
It was a slow start with a third of the crowd getting into his concert, and the other third wondering what this whole hip-hop rap thing was about. After a short lesson in how to dance and groove along to Hip-hop, People got into the spirit of things by dancing, waving their hands and rapping along with him. He did some different old school type stuff.
The Rubber Chicken Guy got a lukewarm response at first. He put on a strait jacket and got wound up with chains. Then he told someone to time 3 minutes and then with a lot of hopping and jumping and a couple of lame jokes he was out and with 6 seconds to spare he was out. He spoke a bit about freedom. He had 15 minutes to do his performance and got quite a few cheers by the end.

Relient K
After the Rubber Chicken Guy the concert we’d all been waiting for started. Gotee Recording Artists – Relient K! Their hour long set opened with their hit song, “Pressing On”. They moved on to the upbeat hit from “Jonah” VeggieTales classic, “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything”. They followed that with “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul. After that number I’m convinced that they could probably perform anyone’s songs and make it work musically. Although, lead singer Matthew Thiessen came from Canada originally, the band at its other members currently hail from Ohio. Relient K is with Gotee records.
