Canadian Prayer Assembly

May 19th, 2001 - Winnipeg - Center of Canada

CELEBRATING THE CHURCH: PRAYER ASSEMBLY

As a body of believers, God has given the Canadian Church gifts that its
members can use to have an extraordinary impact locally, nationally and
globally. To celebrate those gifts and recognize that the Christian
church is one family, the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) is
among the groups calling Christians to attend a national prayer
gathering.

Gary Walsh, the EFC's President, hopes that Christians will come to the
Canadian Prayer Assembly in Winnipeg to express their desire for
cooperation and unity within the Canadian Church. The theme for this
prayer event is "Celebrating The Church" and it is based on Jesus'
prayer in John 17 "that they may be one."

The Canadian Prayer Assembly will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2001. It
will be the second national prayer gathering-sparked by calls from some
of the 8,000 Christians across the country who participated in the first
Canadian Prayer Assembly held nearly a year ago in Ottawa. The
ministries sponsoring this event are: the Evangelical Fellowship of
Canada, Focus on the Family, Crossroads/100 Huntley Street and Canada In
Prayer.

Those who cannot attend the event in person can watch it live on
television on CTS or can view it over the Internet live at
http://www.liveonrequest.com . (The
website will provide prompts as to what viewers should do in the moments
leading up to the prayer assembly.)

Aileen Van Ginkel, Director of the EFC's Centre For Ministry
Empowerment, says that the prayer gathering is the result of Christians'
desire to visibly demonstrate their humility and joy in serving God.

"Prayer is the absolute starting point to unity within the Christian
body across Canada," says Van Ginkel. "Our involvement in the Canadian
Prayer Assembly last year in Ottawa revealed to us the importance of
asking Christians to come together before God to pray and to demonstrate
their willingness to serve Him."
