Delirious March 4th Concert Review
Duckworth Centre Winnipeg
![]()
March 4 th 2002
In the metal 80's there was a period of several years, when big Christian hard rock and pop bands frequented Manitoba's prime venues, including the Concert Hall, Pantages Playhouse Theatre, and Winnipeg Arenea, on a regular basis. Artists such as Rez, Daniel Band, Petra, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, White Cross, and other major CCM artists, were in Winnipeg on a monthly basis.
While there have been sporadic concerts in Winnipeg, the once a month concert series started with Delirious, and continues with Michaeld W. Smith in April, and the with the sold-out success of these two events, promises many more concerts done right in the Peg. Sold out shows means more big artists are sure too follow.
The band Everyone from California opened with a musically solid modern rock and worship set. The polite applause and only occaisional dancing concert-goer, let you know that everyone was here for Delirious.
The usual delays Canada Customs story continues to plague Winnipeg and western Canada acts, with Winnipeg often being the first stop on any Western Canada Tour Swing. Should be by now that promoters and bands should plan for and expect a 4 to 6 hour delay in the itinerary.
Delirious came out with the Tour theme-song Deeper, and carried on with an almost non-stop barrage of tunes spiced with an ever-present worship attitude. Each new song was a sing-along song with the worshippers, at equal volume with
the amplified Martin Smith.
With Delirious Winnipeg debut such a worshipful success, you'd better start saving your toonies for your concert budget, that is sure to get a work-out in the next year. Not that, that's a bad thing. :-)
